Course overview

Events are a large part of the hospitality industry and include * wedding venues * conference and exhibition centres * corporate hospitality * private events * events catering. The course prepares you for a career with real energy. You learn how to create and deliver tailored hospitality packages, from product launches to charity balls, that meet the expectations of your customers. You use a combination of creative thinking, careful research and planning, but you also need to thrive on the fast thinking and flexibility required on the day of delivery. The course combines the facilities management, hospitality management and events skills that drive these careers. You study topics including * business and management * food and drinks management * facilities management * conference and events management. Optional modules allow you to focus on your specialist interest. In your first year, you study corporate hospitality and work on case studies to develop your understanding of the conference and events area. Year two develops your understanding of conference and hospitality operations. In your final year, conference and hospitality events management allows you to further apply your skills and theoretical understanding. You can take an optional one year paid work placement. Placements are a valuable way of increasing your employability and starting salary. We help you find a suitable placement, and provide support while you are there. Past students have worked at the * Hilton London Metropole * De Vere Hotels * Marriott Hotels * MGM Mirage, Las Vegas. The international award places greater emphasis on the global hospitality industry and you must take a work placement abroad. This degree shares a common first year with BSc (Honours) Hospitality Business Management (Honours) Hospitality Business Management with Culinary Arts BSc (Honours) International Hotel Management You can move to one of these courses at the end of the first year if you wish. It is essential that you make your own contacts with industry from the outset. So you get the opportunity to attend trade shows and take part in industry visits. You also get opportunities to represent your student cohort at invitation days, on course committees and with employers. We have a reputation for producing high calibre graduates. The Young Guns Competition, a hospitality industry award that recognises students who have excelled during their placement, supports our reputation. Our students have been winners or finalists for the last eight years.
