About Events Management with Arts and Entertainment, BSc (Hons) - at Sheffield Hallam University

The events and leisure industries are an important part of cultural and business activity in the UK and overseas. They include many private, public and voluntary organisations. This course meets the increasing demand for graduates with management skills in planning and organising events. It prepares you for a career in events management, but specialises in arts and entertainment events such as music festivals and music promotion. You study events theory, policy and practice integrated with business management. An important part of your work involves projects and business simulation. Through these, you experience planning and managing a range of events including * concerts * festivals * corporate events * business conferences * weddings. Your learning involves taking part in seminars, workshops and projects in our modern facilities at City Campus. You can take a one year work placement in the third year. You also have a short period of events industry experience in the second year, which can be in * the UK * the USA * Canada * Europe. This valuable work experience develops your industry knowledge and improves your employability after you graduate. Placement providers include * Sheffield Theatres * Hallam FM Radio * The National Trust * Disneyland, Florida * Sheffield International Venues * Marie Curie Cancer Charity * Corkscrew Events, Birmingham * Docfest, Sheffield * The Showroom Cinema * The Leadmill Club. The course focuses on the events industry, but the broader analytical and personal skills you develop are applicable to many careers. If you already have an advanced diploma, higher national diploma, foundation degree or equivalent qualification in this subject, you can take a one year top up course, based on the final year of this degree. This allows you to convert your qualification to an honours degree. Please see http://www.shu.ac.uk/courses/916 The course includes regular visits to event venues. In 2008, students visited Sheffield's Arena, Crucible Theatre and Showroom Cinema to tour the facilities and learn about event programming and space management.
