Course overview

Human physiology is the science of the mechanical, physical and biochemical functions of humans in good health, their organs, and the cells of which they are composed. The principal level of focus of physiology is at the functional level of organs and systems. Anatomy and physiology are closely related fields of study, with anatomy being the study of form, and physiology the study of function. Students can also choose to strengthen their appreciation of the connections between psychological and physiological aspects of human health, by combining with another discipline area, such as psychology. As a graduate, opportunities exist in a range of health care settings, including as medical scientists, in health promotion, or in marketing/scientific reporting for biomedical/pharmaceutical companies. Graduates interested in research careers may obtain employment in biomedical research laboratories or progress to further studies such as honours, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees within Biomedical Research. Completion of this degree also provides graduates with the knowledge and information to sit the Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admissions Test (GAMSAT) to seek entry into postgraduate medicine.
