About Philosophy as a Way of Life, MA - at University of Liverpool
This innovative programme places ancient conceptions of philosophy as a way of life within contemporary analytical and continental environments. Its rationale is the recent resurgence of interest in such conceptions, and the associated concepts of, “happiness” and “well-being”.
You'll share the deeper understanding we've developed of philosophical practice in the context of a well-led life. In particular we'll explore the analogy between philosophy as a treatment for the soul and medicine as a cure for the body.
This analogy’s found in all the world’s great philosophical traditions, though it's used to different effect within each.
With the knowledge and skills you'll gain you'll be well-equipped for research in related areas of philosophy.
The MA in Philosophy as a Way of Life is structured around four core modules.
(including a Dissertation on an aspect of philosophy as a way of life, the bulk of which will be written over the summer up to the end of the programme) and three elective modules totalling 45 credits.
