Course overview

CLCS offers courses leading to the degree of M.Phil. in Linguistics, M.Phil. in Applied Linguistics, and M.Phil. in Speech and Language Processing. These courses may be taken on either a full-time basis over one year or a part-time basis over two years.

The aims of the courses are:

  • to introduce students to techniques of linguistic description and central concepts in linguistics and applied linguistics;

  • to proceed from this basis to more advanced study of major topics in linguistics and applied linguistics;

  • via the dissertation component, to introduce students to research in linguistics and applied linguistics.
