Course overview
This course provides graduates with the professional skills to work in the media industries, in areas such as feature journalism or public relations. You learn to research, write for different audiences and work individually and in teams. It builds your knowledge and understanding of the cultural, political and economic role of the media in contemporary society.
You develop an awareness of various types of media and the similarities and differences between them. For example, you gain knowledge of more traditional media, such as print or broadcast, as well as understanding newer, convergent forms. You study the core media institutions and learn about the key approaches for analysing media texts.
You also examine the general characteristics of media industries, such as the trend towards conglomeration and convergence. The industries include
