About Media and Convergence Management, MSc - at University of Klagenfurt
In the past, the typical journalistic routine involved a member of the editorial staff and a photographer heading out to jointly create a newspaper article that would then be printed in a daily newspaper. Today, it is (not only) the media world that is characterised by convergence: The editor feels equal responsibility for image and text, and also records a short video for the social media channels, often working at the intersection of newsroom and marketing. To this end, they use a broad range of media and their content can be consumed on various devices.
The Master's degree programme "Media and Convergence Management" examines convergence in terms of technology, media, content and across sectors. We encounter convergence when smartphones and tablets serve as terminal devices for media use, when we are exposed to content in films, as a computer game and as a book at the same time, and when the boundaries in the TIMES industry (Technology, Information, Media, Entertainment and Security) become blurred. Are you interested in organising and managing these convergence processes? The Master's degree programme provides you with the exact skills that are currently in high demand in the media industry, but also in many other entrepreneurial organisational structures.
The English-language Master's degree programme is unique in its form. Every year, the university admits a limited number of participants who come to Klagenfurt from all over the world. The degree programme is just as interdisciplinary as the students: You can start with a Bachelor's degree in the fields of cultural, economic or technical sciences. You can take your first career steps in the media industry, or elsewhere: in communication and media studies (content and editorial management, public relations, cross-media management, corporate social responsibility), in the sphere of business (strategic and operational marketing, advertising, market research and innovation management) or in technology (distributed multimedia systems, human-centred computing).
