Course overview

This course offers practical and valuable training in the fast moving and highly specialist disciplines of Construction Law and Arbitration, and is the only course of its kind in the country.

It is a distance learning course, allowing busy professionals to study at their own pace in an interactive environment. The focus on UK cases and materials as well as, where appropriate, international aspects will allow those out with the Scottish and UK sector to benefit.

Teaching will be delivered through the University's online virtual learning environment. You will have the opportunity to interact with tutors and fellow students from around the world.

Entry requirements

A first degree in a relevant discipline such as law, surveying, architecture, civil engineering, construction management or business management is desired. However, in the absence of a first degree, significant practical experience in a relevant field can be an acceptable substitute.

All international students for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of linguistic ability, by gaining either IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent in TOEFL prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course.

Placements and accreditations

Eligibility for exemption from the Membership or even Fellowship examinations of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators is available after only one year on the course. The programme is also accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, as well as by the Faculty of Advocates for CPD purposes.

  • Postgraduate Diploma Stage 1: £3104 for academic year 2010/11

  • Postgraduate Diploma Stage 2: £3104 for academic year 2010/11

  • LLM stage: £2068 for academic year 2010/11


CPD/Stand Alone Modules

  • £958 per module for academic year 2010/11
