The wide ranging research theme of Mechanics, Materials and Advanced Manufacturing incorporates cutting edge research which fosters innovation and sustainability, supports social and economic development, and contributes to improvements in health and quality of life by ensuring the safety and best performance of materials and structures.
The research work carried out under the Mechanics, Materials and Advanced Manufacturing theme develops, validates and verifies reliable models alongside robust, accurate and efficient simulation tools to describe and understand complex non-linear systems, both natural and engineered, on a wide range of spatial and temporal scales, with an emphasis on advanced materials and structures.
The research also focusses on the development of innovative, advanced and environmentally friendly technology, together with its effective and sustainable implementation via suitable hardware, software or management systems to applications within the transport, energy generation and manufacturing industries.
