Course overview

Study links practice-based research and professional arts practice through partnerships with key regional organisations, such as The Point Eastleigh, Hampshire Dance and the Wessex Academy, to enable the development of creative and critical practices within both professional and academic contexts. The programme focuses on facilitating choreography through ideas, processes, performers, technologies, audiences, sites and networks. Students develop portfolios of work connecting individual physical and creative practices with pedagogical and choreographic approaches. Students undertake six taught modules and the Independent Project. The Gateway to Independent Study modules underpin the Independent Project. The Independent Project is negotiated between the student and the Programme Leader and allows the student to develop, produce and document a portfolio of work of interconnected practices: dance, choreography and facilitation. Modules Choreography in Context Dance Practice: Reflexivity and Pedagogy Entrepreneurship and Management Choreographic Specialisation Research Methods Gateway to Independent Study Learning and Teaching The core delivery is practice-based involving classes, workshops, labs, masterclasses and intensives and supported by lectures, seminars, a mini-conference, discussions and self-directed study.
