Course overview

The program aims: to equip graduates with the academic, personal, professional and technical knowledge, skills and understanding required to commence practice as a Graduate Engineering Technologist in Australia or overseas with appropriate social, cultural, industrial and environmental contexts; to graduate students who can demonstrate the knowledge, skills, practices and values inherent in contemporary understandings of best practice in vocational education and training, particularly as these understandings are reflected in the expectations of industry and key training organizations; to equip graduates with knowledge and understanding appropriate to working as educators with learners in the post-compulsory years and in a range of adult education and training settings. With all forms of engineering infrastructure surrounding all through roads, buildings, bridges, dams and pipelines; it's obvious that Civil Engineers play a major role in society. Students will learn the fundamentals of design, planning and construction of major infrastructure projects and develop the knowledge and skills that will allow them to achieve success. As a graduate they will have the qualifications to work as on major infrastructure projects in areas including transportation, irrigation and construction as a professional engineering technologist. The Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training program aims to graduate students who demonstrate: the knowledge, skills, practices and values inherent in contemporary understandings of best practice in vocational education and training, particularly as these understandings are reflected in the expectations of industry and key training organizations; the qualities and skills required of a USQ graduate; the attributes of an Education graduate; sound levels of knowledge and understanding appropriate to working as educators with learners in the post-compulsory years and in a range of adult education and training settings. Applicants of the Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training need to have a recognised formal trade or professional qualification and work experience in their proposed training area. Exemptions are available, dependent on their qualifications and work experience, helping students reach their personal and professional goals sooner. As a graduate of this degree students will be well-placed to work in the engineering sector in adult education environments such as TAFE, technical colleges and industry. After complete of the education components of this degree, graduates may be eligible to apply for recognition towards a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This qualification meets the industry standard for training delivery in Australia's VET system. The program is not accredited with the Queensland College of Teachers. This program is also offered by faculty of health, engineering and sciences (HES).
