Course overview

This programme places emphasis on doctrinal, theoretical and contextual study of law, and your self-understanding as a participant in the practice of legal scholarship.

MRes Law and Society is one of a very few programmes accredited for 1+3 funding under the South East ESRC Doctoral Training Centre scheme.

Offering ideal preparation for PhD studies, this programme will enable you to develop advanced skills in legal research methods and analysis of law and legal issues. You will be part of a very small cohort of high-calibre students, undertaking sustained training in methodological approaches to legal research.

You will have full access to the library, student common room and all other facilities available to Reading Law students.
