Course overview
Design and manufacture is central to the development of new, innovative commercial products. Our degree is designed for students wishing to study Product Design who want to integrate manufacturing technology, ergonomics and materials into their course. The degree provides a firm understanding of design and the aesthetic and analytical approaches in developing new products. The course combines the creative and the manufacturing skills to enable it's graduates to enter the professional field of Product Design.
Year One
This common first year with the Manufacturing Engineering and Management course provides a firm foundation in engineering science. Modules in Design, Manufacture, Materials, Maths and Business are taken.
Year Two
The focus of this year is to further develop design skills and commercial awareness. You will undertake design projects throughout the year as well as taking modules in the areas of Design Techniques, Manufacturing, Ergonomics and Business.
Year Three
You continue to develop design skills through project work and the modules studied become more in-depth. For students taking the BEng degree a major design project is undertaken in the final semester along with a dissertation.
