Course overview

The main aim of the programme is to impart advanced knowledge in specialist areas of civil engineering and smart construction as well as generic transferable skills in research and project management in order to allow candidates to engage in innovative and blue sky research and development. This programme is aimed at meeting the demands of employers for advanced skills in these areas. Compared to MSc programmes more emphasis is placed on research especially for students wishing to progress to PhD degree programme to pursue an academic or industrial career.

Depending on the availability of teaching resources and demands in future, this MRes programme may introduce optional modules to reflect the progresses and state of the art advances in Civil Engineering and Smart Construction areas such as advanced surveying, structural engineering, transportation engineering, coasting engineering, geotechnics, construction management, construction materials, traffic engineering, Geospatial, GIS and Information Modelling technologies for buildings and infrastructure assets, advanced FE/DEM/CFD analysis, advanced data analysis methods, supply chain and manufacturing management together with advanced construction technologies.
