Course overview

The MTropPaed was the first Masters Degree course in Tropical Paediatrics offered in Europe. The programme addresses both curative and preventive strategies relating to common disorders of children from both a clinical and community perspective. Emphasis is given to the development of research skills applicable to a wide range of child health-related problems in clinical and epidemiological settings.

Participants complete a short project, which can include a 2month period of applied research in an overseas location. An optional period of study in Liverpool may be chosen as an alternative to an overseas project.


Entry requirements

Open to graduates with a medical degree and at least one year’s experience of professional work in clinical paediatrics after qualification. Other candidates who are suitably qualified by higher study or research may be considered at the discretion of the Director of Studies. Applications from international students are particularly welcomed. International qualifications Applications from international students are welcome. International qualifications will be evaluated in line with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines. English language qualifications The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s courses are linguistically very demanding and it is essential that all candidates have a very high level of both spoken and written English. For candidates whose first language is not English, most programmes require a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 OR a minimum TOEFL score of 570 (paper based), or 88iBT.
