Course overview

The MA in Manx Studies is for people interested in studying the Isle of Man and its region. The programme's available on a full-time or part-time basis, on the Isle of Man only.

You'll take compulsory modules on a variety of subjects relating to the history and culture of the Isle of Man, including archaeology, language and literature, political and economic history, art and music, and folk life.

There are also two research skills modules which will equip you to plan your work and produce your 5,000 to 6,000 word dissertation at the end of the academic year.

This MA provides a solid foundation for subsequent doctoral research, as well as transferable skills that will be useful in any job.

Diploma students will take the same taught modules as MA students (outlined below), with the exception of Research Skills II.

Students will undertake a taught programme of 180 credits, comprising eight compulsory modules of 15 credits each (four modules per semester), and one 15,000-20,000 word dissertation worth 60 credits.
