About Addiction Studies, BSc - at University of Leeds
Addiction problems have a broad and far-reaching negative impact on communities and on health and social care.
Our Addiction Studies BSc is a part-time practice-based programme, focusing on the development and enhancement of clinical skills for people working in the addiction field. It offers an in-depth understanding of the causes and consequences of substance misuse and of effective preventive and remedial practices. It also allows you to develop your research and theory-based knowledge and skills, including undertaking your own independent research.
You'll develop your skills in counselling and in communicating information to clients, their relatives, other staff and the public.

Course content
Teaching in each module addresses the ethical, legal, cultural and international context of addictions. The problem of substance misuse, whether relating to alcohol, illicit or prescribed drugs, has an international context and is influenced by international and national law, culture and ethical standards of policy and response.
The programme also encourages you to develop a range of transferable skills, including team working and analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
The programme offers the opportunity to apply theory and research in competence-assessed practice. It includes distance learning and face-to-face taught modules, giving students who are employed and may have family commitments some flexibility.
