About Early Years, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich
Investmentin a child's earliest years has a significant influence on their futuresuccess.
Whilestudying our early years degree, you will learn to be a visionary leader andagent for change under the expert tuition of our dedicated teaching staff. Youwill reflect on the common core values of the early years workforce, reviewpractice and policy and learn the importance of encouraging a child'sdevelopment in partnership with their family. This encompasses all physical,intellectual, social and emotional development as well as children's rights,equality and inclusion.
Anintegral part of the programme is a twice-weekly early years work placementwhich will help you form links with potential future employers for an early years career.
Forthose interested in social policy, there will be the opportunity to visitDenmark where you will learn about the inspiring Danish early yearsenvironment. You will also take trips to forest schools and outdoor learningcentres to discover alternative teaching methods.
Degree structureOur degree is particularly unique in its focused approach in each year ofstudy:
In year one, you will concentrate on early development, from cognition tohealth and well-being.
In year two we explore the Early Years Foundation Stage.You will reflect and critique children's acquisition of maths, English andscience, designing resources to take into your work placements to strengthenpractice in these areas.
In yearthree, the focus moves towards leadership and management. Most of your lectureswill take place on just one day in order to fit in course-related workcommitments. Embedded in all courses are the graduate skills employers look for,with plenty of opportunities for you to develop your presentation delivery,group working and research skills.
QualificationsDuringyour third year you will have the opportunity to graduate with not only a BAHons Early Years degree, but also Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS).
