About Accounting and Finance, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

Our degree will help you understand financial and management accounting, and how it affects planning, decision making and budget control.

The courses will give you confidence in analysing and communicating information, so you can explain concepts and manage new projects. This will develop your core skills so you can choose to take your career in any direction.

You will also learn to prepare financial reports and use software and systems. You will build these practical skills in lab exercises using MS Excel, SAP ERP 6.0 and SAGE 50 Accounts software.

Employability

If you successfully complete relevant course options, you will be exempt from a number of exam papers leading to professional qualifications from ACCA, AIA, CIMA, CIPFA, CPA Australia, ICAEW and IFA. This will set you on the path to becoming a qualified accountant after university.

You will have the option to undertake a work placement, providing the insight and practical skills that employers seek in graduates. Previous university students have secured placement years at Lawrence Grant solicitors, IBM, Northern Trust, Goldman Sachs and Currency Exchange Corporations Ltd.

We have strong connections with the City and companies in Canary Wharf, the financial centres in London. This offers you networking, mentoring and internship opportunities, making it a perfect location to start your career.

Youwill connect with employers through our dedicated Business SchoolEmployability Team who focus on developing your employmentskills. They also provide you with CV support and will inviteyou to employment fairs to network with employers and recruiters fromindustries. The team was shortlisted for the Times HigherEducation Leadership and Management Awards.

We are actively improving job prospects for graduatesthrough the support we provide. According to survey findings, 93 per centof 2014/15 Greenwich graduates looking for work were already in jobs or furtherstudy by January 2016.

Extracurricular activities

Our Greenwich Employability Passport scheme recognises and rewards your participation in additional activities such as part-time work, volunteering, student societies or industry guest lectures.

We will encourage you to join societies such as Trading and Investment and take part in student competitions like the UK Trading Challenge. We are proud that our team of first year Greenwich students won the competition, beating teams from many other universities.

Business start-up

You will be encouraged to enter the university's Enterprise Challengewhich rewards student entrepreneurship and innovation. Previous winners receiveda prize of £5,000 for their idea of developing an enterprise and study hub.
