Course overview

This degree programme combines the breadth and wide appeal of mechanical engineering with the opportunities offered by advanced study of mechanical, aeronautics and aerospace subjects.

What will I study?

You will spend the first two years following the Mechanical Engineering degree programme, supplemented with subjects in aerospace engineering and aerodynamics. In the third year and onwards, you will study a range of core mechanical engineering subjects and core aeronautics subjects, plus a choice of advanced options offered by the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, with all design and project work closely focused on aeronautical engineering applications.

How will I learn?

Teaching is delivered through a combination of techniques including lectures, small group and individual project work, labs, tutorials, computing skills, design assignments, presentations, a teambuilding course and business management tasks that are integrated together throughout the degree programme.

Special features
  • This degree is the only degree of its kind in Scotland which offers collaboration between mechanical and aerospace engineering departments to provide a carefully integrated programme of study.

  • You benefit from the close ties with industry developed by both departments involved in the programme, with industrial case studies focused on the aerospace industries. You may also take part in the in-flight test course from Glasgow International Airport in a Jetstream aircraft.

Note

The degree is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
