Course overview
Our course provides you with the necessary tools to pursue research at PhD level. It is comparable to the first year of a PhD programme in a top US institution, and serves as the first year of our four-year PhD programme, if you decide to stay at Essex.
You receive advanced training in the three core areas of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, studying a range of modules in the year, including:
- The competitive economy and imperfections in markets
- Key paradigms of macroeconomics, econometric methods and mathematical methods
- Strategic behaviour, public choice and general equilibrium
