About Economics, Masters by Research - at Erasmus School of Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam

The programme is a small scale, intensive programme for students who want to pursue a PhD in Economics, Econometrics or Finance at one of the schools in business and economics of Erasmus University Rotterdam, University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

A Small-scale programme

Admissions are highly selective and competitive. Each cohort is made of  maximum of 25-30 students. Tinbergen Institute runs its own scholarship programme for its students.

Selected teaching staff

The teaching staff is selected from among the best researchers of the three faculties participating in the programme, and by internationally renowned experts who are invited to give guest lectures in their fields of research.

Stepping stone for PhD research

Most students who successfully complete the programme obtain a fully paid PhD position at one of the schools that jointly run Tinbergen Institute.

Amsterdam and  Rotterdam

Tinbergen Institute has its own offices and a dedicated support staff in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In Rotterdam, as Tinbergen Institute  is located on ESE’s campus, students make use of ESE’s campus facilities. In Amsterdam, students have their own computer facilities and office space in a dedicated location just a few hundreds meters away from the campus of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam; Tinbergen Institute Amsterdam
