Fees for Doctoral Degree Students
For holders of a Master's degree:
- Total tuition fees: €4,000
For non-holders of a Master's degree:
- Total tuition fees: €6,500, provided that students complete the requirements of their programme and obtain their PhD within six academic years (12 semesters).
- Each additional academic year after the six-year period, up to a maximum duration of eight academic years (16 semesters), is charged at €1,250 per academic year (€625 per semester).
- The maximum total fees charged are €9,000.
Course overview
The main objective of the PhD Program in Physics is to facilitate the advancement of scientific knowledge and research in Physics. Training of graduate students is central to the objectives and activities of the Department. More specifically, the PhD program aims to:
- Attract talented local and international students in pursuing PhD degree studies at the Department
- Provide students with the opportunity to build a solid understanding of core areas of Physics and enable them to master the physical laws of Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Statistical Physics
- Equipe students with a developed range of skills and guide them to put theses skills into practice by conducting research.
- Provide students with the capacity to initiate their own advanced research and to apply acquired knowledge and skills to solve real scientific problems
- Help students reach a level of self-assessment and independent and critical thinking in addressing and solving problems.
- Provide a stimulating learning environment via the offered courses and research opportunities, and via student participation in collaboration networks with major international research centers and universities, and in international conferences, schools and workshops
- Maintain high academic standards in teaching and research
- Produced high-quality graduates, who can pursue careers in academia, research, the industry sector, secondary education, private companies or the public sector
- Achieve and maintain a leading role in the Graduate Physics programs of Eastern Mediterranean Universities and Greek-speaking Universities.
Further, the Department's PhD program strives to provide transferable skills such as clear and concise oral and written scientific communication, use of relevant information technology and experience with methods of information retrieval. In addition it aims to increase students' awareness of the industrial, environmental and social context of their studies.
Attention is also paid in the development of broader skills, ranging from ethics to entrepreneurship, and from respect of intellectual property to dissemination of results to the public. The ultimate goal is to prepare highly skilled educators and researchers, who will perform effectively at both national and international level, will contribute directly to the technological and financial development of Cyprus, and will promote the education of the public in science.
