This is a conjoint programme run with St. Luke’s Hospital, The National Centre for Radiation Oncology and The University of Dublin, Trinity College.
St Luke’s Hospital is a modern, technologically advanced centre of excellence in oncology care. It encompasses highly skilled staff with modern radiotherapy and chemotherapy facilities in a caring environment. St. Luke’s is renowned for its caring ethos providing services for patients country wide.
This oncology programme has been designed to provide the registered nurse with the enhanced knowledge, skills and attitude to respond to both the present and future needs of patients with cancer and their families.
The programme aims to develop a competent pro-active professional, with the opportunity for growth and development through greater knowledge and meaningful communication. It aims to prepare the nurse to play a significant role in influencing the development of oncological nursing throughout the healthcare spectrum.
Central to the programme is the emphasis on the integration of both theory, experiential learning and research.

During the programme, the student is offered exposure to and clinical practice in radiotherapy, chemotherapy, safe handling and administration of chemotherapy including bolus injection, palliative care and other elective placements.
