Course overview

As businesses become more competitive, the role of the accountant in determining an organisation’s success has never been so critical. The first year assumes no prior knowledge of accounting. It introduces the main principles of management accounting and financial accounting. We familiarise you with the business environment companies work in and help you to develop vital IT and numerical skills. The second year deepens your appreciation of the role and scope of management and financial accounting and allows you to explore related areas such as taxation and auditing. You can then progress directly to the final year of the course or take a year’s work placement in an area relevant to accountancy. We strongly encourage you to take a placement as it allows you to apply what you have learnt to the real world and gives you experience much valued by employers. Your placement can sometimes lead to the offer of a permanent job once you graduate. Your final year allows you to question accounting theory and place what you have learnt into a strategic context. The course enables graduates to claim generous exemptions from key professional accounting bodies’ examinations. This places you in a strong position in the graduate employment market.
