Course overview
The hospitality industry is rapidly growing throughout the world and employment prospects of graduates are excellent. For example our graduates have gained positions with Intercontinental Hotels, Disney, British Airways and Compass groups in the USA, Australia, Spain, China, Malaysia and the UK. The course has an international focus as it attracts students from all around the world.
Designed and delivered by an industry-experienced team of academic staff, this course is for people who wish to start or develop a career in the international hospitality industry.
You explore managing international hospitality organisations and the issues involved such as marketing , service quality , entrepreneurship and innovation, leadership, globalisation of the hospitality industry.
You learn to assess your own self-development and develop your team leadership and presentation skills.
You can work on real consultancy projects. Past examples include, franchise developments, hotel feasibility studies, catering consultancy work on nutritional standards, evaluating the market penetration strategies of multinational firms when entering new markets.
If you wish to study while continuing to work in the industry, the course is available as distance learning. We also offer full-time study here in Sheffield and opportunities for work experience.
You can choose to extend your studies and gain work experience by going on a work placement. This UK or overseas placement of typically 6-12 months helps you improve practical management skills and increase employability.
You follow modules through postgraduate certificate and diploma levels as explained in the course content section below. If you choose the work experience option you take an extra management module and a shorter MSc dissertation or project.
