Course overview
This course gives you a sound knowledge of applied social science including • sociology • psychology • politics • criminology. You also learn to use and apply the approaches, research methods and knowledge of these disciplines to gain an understanding of society.
During the first two years, you gain a broad foundation of knowledge and skills that support the four disciplines. You develop important personal and transferable skills, which will help you in your career.
In year three, you can specialise in areas that are of interest to you or relevant for future employment. You can focus on modules from one or two disciplines.
Alternatively, you may want to focus on specific themes, which you can explore from the perspectives of the four main subject areas.
You can develop these further in your dissertation or in the module, work and careers in a global context. In this way, you can plan your final year of study to suit your career, vocational training or postgraduate study.
Topic areas include * culture, media and consumption * crime, policing, victimology and drug use * social interaction * the psychology and sociology of sexuality * self and identity * the body, health and illness * social change and the emerging global society * childhood, the family and old age.
