Course overview
This course produces graduate engineers who can contribute to aeronautical industries • research and development • product design and innovation • manufacture and maintenance of components and systems.
The knowledge and core skills you gain apply to a wide range of mechanical engineering industries and commerce, increasing your employment opportunities.
You begin by studying a common foundation year of engineering principles, knowledge and fundamental skills. After successfully completing the first year, you can transfer to one of our degrees in aerospace engineering or one of our more general mechanical engineering degrees, if you prefer.
This aeronautical engineering course offers flexibility by giving you a large choice of optional modules to study. In the second year there are no core modules, just options, but you must choose to study some aerospace and mechanical engineering modules.
In year three you can take an optional one year work placement. This may involve working in areas such as a design department, a manufacturing organisation or in commercial research and development.
You are able to apply the knowledge gained on the course to commercial engineering practice, gain new skills and learn how industry works. We help you to find a placement and negotiate a sensible salary.
In the final year you complete a major project, which allows you to apply your knowledge, understanding, skills and qualities to a topic of your choice. You decide what you want to study for the rest of the course, but again you must choose some aerospace and mechanical engineering modules.
