Course overview

This course gives you an understanding of how to build and use web information systems in an organisation. It is about more than just creating web pages and websites. You start by gaining an insight into computing and the way organisations use IT, and then move on to the information systems behind the web pages. You also study how these systems help businesses become more efficient and competitive in today's ever expanding global marketplace. You develop your technical IT skills and your awareness of professional issues. You also develop the personal skills needed to become a professional in web information systems and services. The course provides critical insights and experiences with the latest computing methods, tools and technologies. You learn how to apply these to solve complex business problems, using information systems, web-based applications and web services. In your third year, you take a paid work placement in a professional environment in industry or commerce.
