Course overview
A career in the hotel industry can be exciting and varied and may involve working abroad. There are opportunities for rapid progress in this area, and you can focus on specialist roles.
It's a vast, fast moving business and covers all types of hotel, from budget and independent operations to international brands and sophisticated luxury resorts.
This course gives you the knowledge and skills to become a hotel manager. You gain an understanding of the industry and learn how to identify and act on changing patterns of customer demand. We provide you with the mix of strategic and operational skills you need to succeed in the role.
After two years you can take a one year paid work placement. You gain valuable experience of working in hotels. A placement can increase your employability and improve your starting salary. We help you find a suitable placement, which can involve working overseas.
This is the only hospitality course at Sheffield Hallam where you can study a language during every year of your degree. This will help build your international employability.

You work in our first class facilities based at City Campus, where you take part in * seminars * workshops * practical projects * laboratory sessions.
If you already have an advanced diploma, higher national diploma, foundation degree or equivalent qualification in this subject, you can take a one year top up course, based on the final year of this degree.
