Course overview

This is an American degree..

This programme prepares you to engage in world affairs and issues, working with and through INGOs.

It integrates information and theory from international relations and political-economic disciplines with skills-based education in management, business, human resources and marketing.

You will learn to analyse challenges holistically, communicate across different fields of expertise and cultures, and foster operational capabilities under resource and organisational constraints.

Why should I choose this programme?

The non-governmental sector has been growing exponentially across the world, generating over £38 billion a year in the UK alone.

NGOs operate to improve lives by coordinating civil action on a wide range of issues, encompassing education and human rights, sustainability, economic development and peace-building.

They offer immense professional opportunities for motivated individuals looking to marry their personal values, passions and career paths.

Key skills, aims and objectives

  • Identify the theories, history, and major actors that govern the modern operations of INGOs
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to critically analyse and evaluate the roles and activities of INGOs in international affairs
  • Managerial and operational skills relevant to the activities of INGOs
  • Ability to evaluate the consequences of the political and moral choices of INGOs

Future opportunities

You will develop as a broadly educated INGO specialist who will have the appropriate skills for working in international governmental and non-governmental organisations.

There are wide-ranging career opportunities in the non-governmental and social entrepreneurship sector, in the UK and internationally.

Previous graduates have founded their own NGOs while others have been recruited by top international organisations.

The unique depth of knowledge and practical skills acquired throughout this programme will provide you with a robust tool-box for entering the workplace, whether focusing your efforts on development projects, community empowerment, sustainable environments or human rights.
