About BA (Hons) Screenwriting & Producing, UG:Bachelor - at Regent's University London
This programme is designed to develop the next generation of writers and producers for the screen - individuals who will work on both sides of the film and television industry.
The course goes further and encompasses more than a pure creative writing or screenwriting degree.
It also trains and educates new young writers in the commercial and production side of the screen industry, and develops key skills which are essential for the career success of a writer or producer.
In addition, you will undertake a work placement that will give you first-hand experience of working in the industry.
Why should I choose this programme?
The script is the cornerstone of television and film production. From the point of conception through to the realisation of the final work, the script forms the spine, structure and design of the final creative project, and all production ideas, decisions and executions emanate from it.
This degree aims to develop the new breed of writer-producers with the ability to both create work and produce it, and the skills to operate on both sides of the traditional ‘boundary’ between different roles.
Key skills, aims and objectives
- Script planning, creation and development skills
- Multi-media technology skills - the ability to film, edit and produce screen projects
- Research skills and the ability to adapt material into dramatic form
- The ability to write industry-standard television and film scripts
- Strong presentation skills
- Creative cooperation skills and the ability to manage group dynamics
- People management, mediation and interpersonal skills
- The ability to make key industry judgements – why and how a major screen project will work
Future opportunities
If you wish to work in the television or film industry as a writer, this degree will nurture your creative development. It will also sharpen your business acumen and understanding of the production process.
If you wish to work in this industry as a producer, you will gain the competencies to do so, but will also gain industry-standard skills in script evaluation and in writing quality, plus the skills to write high-quality scripts yourself.
A career as both screenwriter and producer – operating simultaneously on both sides of what has always been a ‘boundary’ between different skills – will also be possible upon successful completion of this degree.
