The Juris Doctor (JD) programme is a Professional Doctorate. It has a blend of taught, skills-based and research elements and is designed to provide our students with a world-class legal education, preparing them for the global and international environments in which they will be providing legal advice. This is a three-year QLD for Northern Ireland, England and Wales. This degree is also recognised by various international jurisdictions - please see Accreditation section on the School's website. It is taught via intensive seminar teaching with each student encouraged to participate fully and engage with the subjects. In Year 1, the programme will focus on most of the core subjects required for a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD). In Year 2, the doctoral research-focused will allow students to develop a depth of knowledge and originality of insight in core legal subjects. Year 3 is reserved for a 30,000 thesis under expert supervision, whereby students will demonstrate originality of thought, through the production of new knowledge or through novel applications of existing knowledge. The thesis will be subject to examination in a viva voce. JD students are encouraged to play a full and active role in relation to the wide range of research activities in the School.]
