About Electronics and ICT Engineering Technology, MSc - at KU Leuven

The Master of Electronics and ICT Engineering Technology prepares the student to play a key role in the development of a variety of digital media applications, ranging from modern consumer products such as GPS positioning and navigation systems to smartphones, digital audio and video devices. Students learn to analyse both existing analogue and digital electronic systems and design and implement new systems.

What is the programme all about?

The Master of Electronics and ICT Engineering Technology will prepare the student to play a key role in the development of a variety of digital media applications. Ranging from modern consumer products  such as GPS positioning, and navigation systems, to smartphones, digital audio and video devices.

This programme will introduce the foundational systems of knowledge and teach the vital skills required for success within this broad field.

Structure

To compose yout study programma, you select an R&D Experience, an option package and an additional elective course. You can choose from two main options:

  • The Intelligent Electronics option refers to the combination of hardware and software used to develop and implement embedded systems (cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras). You will learn to consider limitations in the areas of I/O possibilities, memory, speed and energy consumption.
  • The Internet Computing option follows the trend of a broadly distributed approach to developing applications. The advantages of this approach include high reliability, scalability, high performance, easy maintenance and low cost.

You also choose an R&D Experience. This gives you the opportunity to realise a challenging project in a team context. There are four possibilities:

  • UX-driven Web Development – With the user as a guideline, you develop a web application with rich user interactions
  • Embedded Systems – You develop a ‘system on chip’ application, using an FPGA and an embedded processor
  • Signal Processing: Algorithms and Implementation – You develop and implement a state-of-the-art DSP algorithm
  • Games and Tangibles – You learn how to build a game using rich tangible interaction for player input and output.

Combine your master with a start-up or team project learning experience

You can combine your master's programme with the Postgraduate Tech Innovations in Ventures & Teams. During this programme, you actually develop and implement an idea, either on your own or as part of a team. You are encouraged to innovate, transfer knowledge and develop technical and professional skills. With support from team coaches and industry professionals, this postgraduate offers you a unique insight into the world of entrepreneurship
