Course overview
Bringing a character to life involves more than just technical ability. With that in mind, Animation at JMC has been developed in association with studio professionals from Pixar and Animal Logic, and is born of a love affair between technology, creativity and science.
Underpinned by a strong understanding of design, filmmaking and compelling storytelling, this course introduces you to the art and practice of animation. Learn to design and develop characters and worlds – from concept to finished art – and create arresting graphical motion and believable character performances.
We’ll make sure you are up to speed on all the latest developments demanded by the industry, you'll have a chance to intern, network and study abroad along the way. You'll graduate with a top notch portfolio, a showreel, and knowledge of who’s who where it counts, ready to launch into the industry.
During this course you will be able to access Wacom Intuos Pro and Cintiq tablets, lightboxes + line testers, Ball and Socket stop-motion rigs, Dragonframe stop-motion software, 18-camera leading precision motion-capture suites, VR facilities (HTC Vive), Green-screen studios, Mixing and recording studios for soundscapes, Rendering tech (Redshift, Pixar RenderMan, Arnold), Quixel, ZBrush, Mudbox and 3D-Coat for sculpting, Compositing tech (After Effects, Blackmagic Fusion) and Full Adobe suite (Maya + Autodesk).
Get hands-on with the design and development of characters and worlds – from concept to finished art – and create arresting graphical motion and believable character performances with a Diploma of Creative Arts (3D Animation). Master drawing and visualisation techniques, learn traditional techniques and cutting-edge motion design and master the core skillset and tools required for 3D modeling and animation.
Entry requirements
Evidence of minimum completion of Year 10, or equivalent, with an appropriate VET qualification and/or relevant industry work experience.
Written application (with compulsory 200 word statement to assess functional literacy).
An interview to identiy potential difficulties that may impact on learning.
Demonstrated commitment with satisfactory communication skills sufficient to indicate reasonable likelihood of successful completion of Diploma studies.
A portfolio of work or performance audition (if applicable).
Demonstrated (above average) creative aptitude or expertise pertinent to field of interest.
Applicants must also satisfy all other entry requirements for admission.
