About Entry into Enclosed Spaces (SCQF level 4), Other UG Award - at City of Glasgow College

The Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) Entry into Enclosed Space course provides training that delivers the knowledge requirements set out in The Merchant Shipping (Entry into Dangerous Spaces) Regulations 1988, IMO Resolution A.1050 (27) Revised recommendations for entering enclosed spaces aboard ships and the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seafarers 2015.

The course will provide delegates with a grounding in the aspects to consider when entering, working within and escaping from an enclosed space. The following objectives will be explored:

  • Recognise potential dangerous enclosed spaces aboard a vessel.
  • Completion of a typical enclosed space permit to work and toolbox talk.
  • Carry out testing of an atmosphere using typical test equipment.
  • Carry out a safe enclosed space entry.
  • Practice rescue from an enclosed space making use of EEBD, tripods and stretchers.
  • Perform the role of the safety attendant.
  • On successful completion of the course you will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance.
