Tuition Cost
Tuition Cost - The tuition cost is 18,000 Euros for the full program (6,000 Euros/Academic Year). The fees cover only the tuition fees, and do not include housing or any other living costs and related expenses which you may have.
Personal Costs - The ICD and the University of Bucharest are happy to assist you with advice and support for finding your housing in Berlin and Bucharest and offer you as well possible affordable accommodation solutions.
Scholarships and Financial Aid - Scholarships, equaling up to 10% deduction of tuition costs are available for students based on educational excellence and financial need. Although each scholarship request will be evaluated on an individual basis, students are expected to have an above-average grade point of 4.5 (of 5.0) in order to qualify for a grant and then to prove financial need.
The Financial Aid application is a two-step process; Students interested in applying for a scholarship are required to submit their initial aid application request as soon as they have formally applied to the program, completed the first step of the application, and have been accepted into the program. Scholarships are then determined for the third and 6th semester.
Further to these scholarship outlined in our e-mail and online, we are not able to offer any further scholarships or financial support.
students are welcome to search for scholarships, such as from governments, or other Institutions. With regards to how to obtain such funding, we encourage participants to consider relevant foundations, institutes, organizations, companies and Governments as possible sources. A number of students on ICD programs have been able to acquire funding from their government, company or from relevant foundations.
We do not have any specific sponsor to which we can refer students.

PhD Program with concentration on International Relations & Cultural Diplomacy – Bucharest University in cooperation with the ICD Academy for Cultural Diplomacy
The Doctoral studies represent the third cycle of studies offered by (and awarded by) the University of Bucharest in partnership with the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy with the purpose of expanding knowledge through original scientific research. They allow the acquisition of a level 8 qualification according to The European Qualifications Framework and to The National Qualifications Framework.
The PHD research will be done under one of the following departments of the university; Political Science/ Sociology/ History/ Philosophy/ Philology, and will have a special concentration in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy though the courses held at the ICD Academy.
The program is a 3 year's program; in the first academic year, you will be required here in Berlin for at least 3 months, for the courses on Cultural Diplomacy. In addition, during the first year, the students will be guided with their research. At the end of first academic year of the PhD, students will be required to elaborate the first research report on their specific chosen topic as the commission of professors and, in particular, the student's individual supervisor will guide the student with the development of the thesis.
During the second and third year of the Ph.D program students are not obliged to reside in the doctoral school, but are required to stay in close and direct contact with the Doctoral supervisor. A working schedule is established in an individual agreement between the student and the PhD supervisor and will include at least two periods of presence at the University of Bucharest each academic year. During the presence in Bucharest, further to meetings with the PhD supervisors and continuing the work on the thesis, the PhD students will also interact with other doctoral students and members of the teaching staff with whom they share academic interests, and participate in the activities of the doctoral schools of the University of Bucharest..
During the second year progress reports are to be submitted according to a time schedule and a format established by the supervisor and the student, in compliance with the requirements of each doctoral school.
During the second and third years, according to the rules of the doctoral school where they are enrolled, the PhD students will submit 2-3 research reports, which they will have to present to a committee according to a schedule agreed with the PhD supervisor.
During the second semester of the third year, students are required to complete the thesis, and, once it has obtained the approval of the guiding commission and of the individual supervisor, students will submit their thesis for the public defense, which will take place in about 2-3 months after the thesis has received the approval of the PhD supervisor;
The final step of the Program is the public defense of the Thesis.

Accreditation
The PHD Degree is awarded by the University of Bucharest (OuB), as the University which offers and ward the degree. The UoB is recognized as a fully accredited institution of higher education with the right to award university degrees. The University of Bucharest is part of the Bologna Process set in place by the European Commission, and uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) to award degrees. As part of the Bologna Process, credits obtained through our programs are equivalent to those of courses at universities in all other 30+ signatory countries.
The PHD Degree will be conferred through one of the following departments of the university; Political Science/ Sociology/ History/ Philosophy/ Philology, and will have a special concentration in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy though the courses held at the ICD Academy.
