Greece Student Visa Process and Fees for International Students

Non-EU/EEA students wishing to study in Greece for a period longer than 90 days need to apply for a national student visa (Type D). The process begins with securing admission to a recognised Greek university or college. Following your acceptance, you must prove you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses in Greece, typically around €4,000 per year, in addition to covering tuition fees.

To obtain a visa, you need to apply at the Greek embassy or consulate in your home country, providing the following documents:

  • A letter of acceptance from the Greek educational institution confirming your enrollment in a full-time course
  • Proof of sufficient financial means to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of your stay
  • A valid health insurance policy
  • A certificate of criminal record from your home country
  • A medical certificate stating you are free from any contagious diseases
  • A valid passport and recent passport-sized photographs

The visa application fee for a national Type D visa is generally around €90. It’s crucial to apply well in advance of your intended start date, as visa processing times can vary.

Upon arrival in Greece, students must apply for a residence permit at the nearest Alien Bureau within the Hellenic Police Department. This permit is usually valid for one year and can be renewed annually for the duration of your studies.

Greece Student Visa Work Regulations

Greece allows international students to work part-time during their studies. Students with a valid residence permit can work up to 20 hours per week. This opportunity allows students to gain work experience, enhance their language skills, and support themselves financially during their studies.

After completing their studies, graduates may explore opportunities to extend their stay in Greece by seeking employment or engaging in further education, subject to the country’s immigration policies.
