Ghana student visa process and fees for international students

International students wishing to study in Ghana need to apply for a student visa. The process begins once you have received an admission offer from a Ghanaian university. Alongside your acceptance letter, you must demonstrate that you have adequate financial resources to cover your tuition fees and living expenses during your stay in Ghana. The exact financial requirements can vary, but students are generally advised to ensure they have access to at least $500 USD per month.

In order to obtain a student visa, you need to apply at the nearest Ghanaian embassy or consulate in your home country, providing the following documents:

  • An official letter of acceptance from the Ghanaian educational institution confirming your enrollment in a full-time course.
  • Proof of sufficient financial means to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of your stay.
  • A valid health insurance policy.
  • A medical certificate from an accredited health institution, confirming you are free from any contagious diseases.
  • A valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity and recent passport-sized photographs.

The application fee for a Ghanaian student visa varies by country but is typically around $60 USD for a single entry visa. It’s crucial to apply well in advance of your intended start date, as visa processing times can vary.

Upon arrival in Ghana, international students will need to register with the Ghana Immigration Service and obtain a Non-Citizen ID Card, which is a requirement for all foreign nationals staying in Ghana for more than 90 days.

Ghana student visa work regulations

Ghana offers work opportunities for international students during their studies. Students are allowed to work part-time for up to 20 hours per week during the academic term and full-time during breaks, provided they obtain the necessary work permits.

After completing their studies, graduates may explore opportunities to extend their stay in Ghana by seeking employment or engaging in further education, subject to the country’s immigration policies at that time.
