At Western, we know the value a great teacher brings to the classroom as well as the challenges you'll face. That's why we've built our Bachelor of Education (Secondary) around giving you depth of subject knowledge, practical strategies in classroom management, quality school placements and flexible choices to follow your interests in Education. Offering a mix of on-campus theory and school-based placements, this program builds your secondary teaching knowledge with applied classroom practice for 80 days over the four year program. The aim is to produce teachers with strong academic knowledge and skills, excellence in professional practice, commitment to equity and social justice, and dedication to personal and professional growth.
Students can select majors from the following learning areas: English, Mathematics, Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), Science, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Business, Graphic Design, Technological and Applied Studies (TAS), Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) and Languages.
This program is accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Upon completion of this degree, you will meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and can work as a school teacher in NSW and other Australian states/territories. The program supports pathways into diverse teaching careers, including options for religious education and roles within Catholic school communities.
