Course overview
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and the incidence keeps rising due to the aging of the population.
Amsterdam UMC has identified cancer research as one of its core research areas. The Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA) works in close collaboration with international and national centres of excellence in the area of Oncology, such as the Dutch Cancer Institute. The Master Oncology aims to transfer the unique combination of translational Oncology research to the next generation of students. You will be trained in state-of-the-art techniques in cancer research and therapy in a challenging environment by experts in the field. You will become an MSc in Oncology with in-depth knowledge, attitudes and skills in the field of cancer research. This includes the development, execution, organization and evaluation of scientific research.
Entry requirements
This is a selective Master's programme. You will be considered for admission to the Master's programme Oncology if you hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting to a minimum of 180 ECTS or equivalent. For a bachelor's degree from an institute of higher education (HBO/HLO), you need 240EC (4 years of study). To be considered for admission to the Master's programme in Oncology you must meet the requirements listed below.
- Academic Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Medicine or comparable.
- Well-developed academic skills including writing and presenting skills, the ability to evaluate and apply knowledge, and the ability to engage in critical thinking.
- A clear motivation and talent for participation in the programme.
- Basic knowledge of Oncology & Immunology.
- Research Laboratory skills (a bachelor internship of > 12 EC).
- Pass the admission assessment test of the programme.
We will also take into account your grade point average, marks for relevant courses, study progress and extracurricular activities. The Admissions Board of the master Oncology will decide upon your admission after having evaluated your complete online application. If you have read the admission criteria and feel you are eligible for admission, please take the following steps to submit your application. Note that the initial application procedure is fully online and that scans of your relevant documents are required. In all cases, decisions will be made within 6 weeks after the application deadline. Only in exceptional circumstances may we deviate from the specific admission requirements. If you believe your case is subject to such exceptional circumstances, then please explain so in your letter of application.
