Do you want to know what moves people and how you can help improve their well-being? During the master's programme in Psychology at VU Amsterdam, you will immerse yourself in psychological questions.

In the English-taught track Work and Organizational Psychology, you will focus on the wellbeing of employees within organisations and work situations. You will look at individual performance, interrelationships, and collaborative processes and will investigate oppuntunities for improvement.

This track of the master's programme in Psychology takes one year and consists of lectures and seminars. You will participate in research and practice using important scientific skills in tutorial groups and practicals.

The master's programme in Psychology is small-scale, intensive and well organised. You will learn interactively in small tutorial groups and the important connection between theory and practice will continuously be made.

Entry requirements

We welcome and look for motivated and ambitious students who are actively developing themselves and are aware of their position and role in society. In order to be successful in this programme you need a solid academic basis in Psychology or a close-related discipline. Typically, successful students in this programme have at least a 7,0 average grade (or an equivalent GPA score).

The Faculty's Admission Board will decide upon your admission after having evaluated your complete online application. If you have read the admission criteria below and feel you are eligible for admission, please take the following steps to submit your application. Note that the initial application procedure is fully online and that scans of your relevant documents are required.

In order to gain admission to this Master's programme, you need to have obtained at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting to a minimum of 180 ECTS or equivalent. Academic writing skill is to be demonstrated by submitting a thesis or other piece of academic writing you have done during your prior education.

General English language proficiency requirements

VU Amsterdam requires all applicants to take an English test. You can, however, begin your application without having the test results. Exceptions are made for students who have completed a bachelor or master in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia.

The minimum English language proficiency requirements for admission to this master programme are:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall
  • TOEFL Internet-based test: 92 overall
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): A, B, C
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): A, B, C
