About Criminal Justice Technology (A.S. Degree), Other UG Award - at Valencia College

The Criminal Justice degree program offers the student a broad background in the history, philosophy, organization, management and operation of the criminal justice system. It is designed for students who seek immediate employment in the field of criminal justice and/or who decide to utilize this Articulated A.S. to B.S. Career Path to transfer to any Florida public university as a junior to complete a four-year Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

This program prepares students to work in law enforcement, corrections, private/industry security and other criminal justice fields. It is also beneficial to professionals seeking incentive benefits or career enhancement. In addition, this program can be useful as a first step toward a career in other legal or public service careers. Successful completion of a state-certified training academy and state examination is required to be a sworn law enforcement or corrections officer in the State of Florida regardless of any degree work which may have been completed.

Graduates of specific programs at TECO may be eligible for the award of credit in specific courses in this program. Eligible students should contact the related academic department and/or career program advisor at Valencia for the award of credit.

Students who have successfully completed a state-certified training academy such as Valencia’s Criminal Justice Institute and passed a recognized state certification exam for Law Enforcement Officer, Corrections Officer or Probation/Parole Officer, may also be eligible to receive credit for certain courses in this program. To have the credit awarded, students should bring the required documentation to the Dean’s academic department for verification and approval.

Students are strongly encouraged to consult a career program advisor in the department office for assistance in determining the best education plan for their career goals.

Students wishing to transfer any credits from this program to another institution must accept responsibility for securing approval from the transfer institution.

All degree-seeking students must satisfy entry testing requirements and satisfactorily complete all mandatory courses in reading, student success, mathematics, English, and English for Academic Purposes in which the student is placed.
