Course overview
GLIER offers a research-oriented graduate program in environmental research leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. The programs support advanced research and develop graduate expertise to assess multiple stressor effects on large lakes and their watersheds. The programs train a diverse cohort of high-calibre graduate students who will address pressing environmental issues and meet growing demands for environmental scientists, academics and managers.
Students are trained to utilize a multidisciplinary approach to the study and resolution of the complex environmental challenges that affect large lakes and their watersheds.
While the programs focus most intensively on the Great Lakes, our research programs extend to other large systems of the world: ancient large lakes in Indonesia, the Caspian and Black sea region of western Asia, and coastal ecosystems including Chesapeake Bay.
