Course Overview

The importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for the individual's well-being is examined in this degree programme.

You will learn how nutrition and exercise affect the body and impact upon the individual's health and well-being. In addition, you will examine the psychological and sociological factors which may influence health-related behaviour.

The course includes modules which will allow you to develop your knowledge and application of current health promotion strategies.

You will have the opportunity to use the laboratory equipment to gain practical experience of using dietary analysis software, and of assessing individuals' health and fitness levels.

Key Features

This course differs from a 'purely nutrition' degree as it incorporates other aspects of health such as exercise. The degree therefore examines health from a holistic approach and considers the psychological, physiological and sociological issues associated with health and lifestyle.

Many of the nutrition specific elements of the course are studied as a course groups which allows for greater tutor support. There are however, several opportunities to integrate with students from other degree courses during the shared modules.

The course is timetabled over 3 days of the week for full time students and 1.5 days for part time students. This structure helps many students who may be managing other commitments such as work or childcare and also saves on travel costs.

The BSc. Health, Nutrition and Lifestyle is studied on the Carmarthen campus which offers a friendly and very personal learning experience. All the lecturing staff are based on the campus and are easily accessible for tutorials to support your studies. The Carmarthen campus has a swimming pool and health suite which is available for use by students and the Students Union provides an extensive array of sporting and leisure activities.

Some of the additional vocational awards offered in the School have their content directly embedded in the course allowing student to achieve the awards at a fraction of the cost that would be charged by a private provider.
