About Doctor of Education, EdD - at University of Waikato

The Doctor of Education (EdD) will extend your academic knowledge and expertise so that it can be applied in the various professional settings in which educators work.

Globally, this qualification is a benchmark in terms of researching professional policy and practice. The EdD brings together professionals from a range of contexts and backgrounds. This diversity adds richness to the learning experience and enhances your ability to engage in robust and innovative research.

The EdD has the same status as the PhD, but recognises the professional experience you bring and your desire to apply research directly in your professional contexts.

This is a two-step programme of study incorporating taught papers in supportive consultation and a thesis supported by our quality staff:

  • Part 1: two block days per semester, supported by online support, dialogue and face to ace mentoring meetings
  • Part 2: independent study supported by supervision panel. Face to face meetings as required.

Programme highlights

Subject to the availability of staff, the Faculty of Education offers doctoral supervision (supported by academic staff) in large range of areas including but not limited to:

  • Teaching and classroom studies
