International tuition fees are 14,000 Euros per year. The University also offers generous scholarships as tuition fee waivers up to 6,000 Euros available across both years of study.
You do not have to pay tuition fee if you:
- are an EU/EEA citizen
- are equivalent to an EU/EEA citizen (i.e. citizen of Switzerland)
- have a permanent residence permit (type P)
- have an EU Blue Card
- have a continuous residence permit in Finland for purposes other than studies. However, please note that in the following cases the tuition fee is charged:
- If the first residence permit in Finland was granted for the purpose of studying, tuition fees must be paid, even if a type A permit is later obtained on other grounds.
- If the type A permit is based on family ties, and the family member originally came to Finland on a residence permit granted for studying, tuition fees are required.
- If the type A permit is granted for studying, tuition fees are required.

Throughout your studies, you will learn to analyze the impact of the green energy transition, digitalization, and emerging technologies on smart energy systems. You'll also gain the expertise to plan and develop resilient and intelligent energy solutions using various simulation tools.
This major prepares you for a wide range of roles in the energy sector, enabling you to lead and manage the development of new technologies and projects. In addition, the degree prepares for research work and gives you eligibility for further studies in electrical engineering and electrical energy engineering.
The major in Electrical Engineering is a part of the Master's programme in Smart Energy Transition. The duration of studies is 2 years (120 ECTS credits).
Entry requirements
Electrical Engineering
1. Scope of the degree
- A recognized 3- or 4-year bachelor’s degree at a higher education institution (HEI) which is considered equivalent to a Finnish bachelor’s degree. There are guidelines available for those who have completed their degree outside the EU: Entry guidance for international qualifications.
2. Prior studies in an appropriate field.
- The appropriate fields are: electrical engineering, energy engineering, power systems engineering, renewable energy engineering, robotics engineering, electronic engineering, mechatronics engineering, computer engineering, network engineering, telecommunications engineering.
A degree in business studies is generally not an appropriate degree. - Degrees from the following fields may be also suitable if the degree has included enough courses in electrical engineering and power systems / power electronics: applied engineering, automotive engineering, aviation engineering, computer science, computing, control engineering, cyber security, data science, financial engineering, industrial engineering, information technology, manufacturing/production engineering, marine engineering/naval architecture, mechanical engineering, operations engineering, optical engineering/optical sciences and engineering, safety engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, thermal engineering/science.
3. Applicant’s overall cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in previous degree, including the thesis or final report if applicable, must be at least 3,00/5 (ECTS grading). Applicants with the highest CGPA will be prioritized.
