Course overview
The Bachelor of Education program aims to graduate students who meet the academic requirements for registration as a teacher in Queensland and who demonstrate: the knowledge, skills, practices and values inherent in the Queensland College of Teachers' ten Professional Standards for Queensland Teachers; the qualities and skills required of a USQ graduate; the attributes of an Education graduate; high levels of facility with personal and professional literacies; a particular awareness, understanding and positive orientation towards redressing the educational disadvantages suffered by indigenous students. The Special Education specialisation also aims to prepare graduates who are equipped to operate successfully as teachers in both primary and special education settings. The 100 days of professional experience gives students an excellent grounding in the school environment and in this specialist field. With regular opportunities to engage with current educators and industry, such as the Education Department, Queensland College of Teachers and Catholic Education, students will be able to cross the gap between theory and the classroom. This is one of the elements that make graduates highly desired and employable. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Special Education) will be given the grounding needed to achieve this. Career opportunities also exist in training related fields, human services and community-based government organisations. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education are eligible to apply for registration as a teacher through the Queensland College of Teachers. To be eligible for registration in Queensland, both domestic and international students must have completed the minimum 40 days of supervised practical experience in Australian Schools.
