Course overview

The Bachelor of Education program aims to graduate students who meet the academic requirements for registration as a teacher in Queensland and who demonstrate: the knowledge, skills, practices and values inherent in the Queensland College of Teachers' ten Professional Standards for Queensland Teachers; the qualities and skills required of a USQ graduate; the attributes of an Education graduate; high levels of facility with personal and professional literacies; a particular awareness, understanding and positive orientation towards redressing the educational disadvantages suffered by indigenous students. The Health and Physical Education specialisations (primary) will also develop in graduates: a theoretical basis and practical application of knowledge across the broad area of health and physical education; the capacity to perform a wide range of tasks required as part of teaching health and physical education or as part of involvement in various sport and/or recreational activities and organisations; the insights and skills to cope with changing career opportunities within the area of health and physical education. A key feature of the degree is the opportunity to complete the 100 days of professional experience at any Australian school or a variety of locations including rural placements, outdoor education facilities, and the School of Distance Education. Completing professional experience overseas is also an option. This range of experiences is just another element of the USQ Education degree that gives students the edge in the employment stakes. Graduates are also well equipped to engage in the fields of coaching, recreation and the sport, health and fitness industries. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education are eligible to apply for registration as a teacher through the Queensland College of Teachers. To be eligible for registration in Queensland, both domestic and international students must have completed the minimum 40 days of supervised practical experience in Australian Schools.
