Course overview
The Bachelor of Education program aims to graduate students who meet the academic requirements for registration as a teacher in Queensland and who demonstrate: the knowledge, skills, practices and values inherent in the Queensland College of Teachers' ten Professional Standards for Queensland Teachers; the qualities and skills required of a USQ graduate; the attributes of an Education graduate; high levels of facility with personal and professional literacies; a particular awareness, understanding and positive orientation towards redressing the educational disadvantages suffered by indigenous students. The Early Childhood specialisation aims to prepare graduates who satisfy the requirements of Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority for working as educators with children from birth to eight years, and can work expertly in early learning services, kindergarten and primary schools specialising in Prep to Year 3. If students are interested in research in education, they will have the opportunity to apply for a transfer to the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Early Childhood) program after completing a minimum of 1.5 years study in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) degree and achieving a minimum GPA of 6.00. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) will be well qualified for employment in traditional and diverse roles in a range of early childhood settings in Queensland and elsewhere in Australia and in many overseas jurisdictions, subject to local requirements. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education are eligible to apply for teacher registration through the Queensland College of Teachers. To be eligible for registration in Queensland, both domestic and international students complete a minimum of 40 days of supervised practical experience in Australian Schools.
